Rigid object manipulation has been applied in robotics for decades. However, soft objects remain a challenge. Furthermore, food items such as potato salad, etc., are highly viscous and get stuck to a surface, forming additional difficulties.

At TechMagic(Japan), we have developed a robotic system to pick up side dishes accurately, making it the first robot of its kind. The robot can measure the 3D shape of the food. The in-house developed gripper can pick up food in the exact amount and wipe itself. The system is fully automatic and thus requires no human intervention.
